OBVIOUSLY......... |
It appears after viewing these newsreels (which by the way are a real treasure) that they DID NOT come off of the DVDs that are being sold on the website that more than two people have pointed to when asked where this collection came from. I can't believe that the quality on the DVDs are the same quality as what is on some of the clips found here. Some of these look very, very good. I'll even go so far to say that some of these look excellent considering their age. However, others (especially from the war years) looks like someone found 16mm film prints in a trash bin, took them out, set up a movie projector, aimed it at a wall that needed painting, and recorded it with an old RCA Black and White Camera hooked up to a 30 year old Ampex Video Recorder. Something tells me the DVDs don't look like that. The $%300.00 price tag for all the DVDs might be well worth it, and I for one may just make that investment because for all of this, that price is really not expensive at all. So I guess my question is: Has anyone either seen or purchased these DVD and made a comparison to the quality of the DVD Vs What's out here?

Re: OBVIOUSLY......... |
About what? I only made an objective observation not a subjective comment. Give me one valid reason I should pick up the phone and call a total stranger? I also belive that Skip answered my question and since I've been in contact with him on various posts (and in E-mails) I accept his answer as he has not given me any wrong info in the past about anything I've ever inquired about.

Re: OBVIOUSLY......... |
These clips all come from the DVDs which ultimately all come from the reference videos at the National Archives.
Some of the transfers are excellent, some of them aren't so great - either because the National Archives didn't have a good print to transfer from, didn't have good transfer equipment or the video tape had deteriorated.
